Solar Return Calculator

Once a year the Sun comes back to the exact degree, minute and second it held at your birth. The chart for that moment describes the year that follows.

What you get

  • The exact return moment, found by bisection to within a ten-thousandth of a degree
  • A full chart for that moment, cast for wherever you actually are
  • The return chart compared against the natal chart
  • Lunar and planetary returns too — Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn with triple returns detected

How it works

The solar return is not your birthday. The Sun returns to its natal degree at a precise instant that drifts by about six hours a year, so the chart is usually cast a day either side of the date on your passport.

Location matters and is genuinely contested. The houses of a return chart depend entirely on where you are when it happens, so the same return produces a different chart in London and in Singapore. Some astrologers use the birthplace, some the current residence, some deliberately travel. The calculator lets you set it rather than deciding for you.

Saturn returns are worth singling out. Because Saturn retrogrades, the return can happen three times over several months rather than once — the engine detects these triple returns and groups them, since the middle crossing is often the one people actually feel.
